Report:
Aldershot & Fleet faced Southsea Nomads on Sunday in the preliminary round of the Gales HSB Hampshire Plate in extremely wet and muddy conditions. Shield Security sponsored A&F had the better of the first half, with good forward platforms allowing the backs to string together a number of excellent plays. Although Aldershot dominated at the close of the first half they were just three points ahead of the Hampshire 2 side, these points coming from the boot of Chris Bird. Both teams were reduced to 14 men at the beginning of the second half due to A&F’s number 8 and Nomads number 6 becoming involved in a scuffle. The second half proved to be too much for the visitors with A&F in the ascendancy for the most part. Excellent go forward from the pack kept Nomads on the back foot and as a result of a missed penalty attempt from Chris Bird, and the resulting fumble from Nomads, Scott Barr pounced to score the only try of the game. A&F face Millbrook at home in the next round at home on the 3rd January. Result 8-0.
