Rugby union: Wids beaten by Glossop in Peak District
Glossop 14 Widnes 6
THE Wids’ recent run of good league form ended with a disappointing defeat at fortress Hargate Hill in the Peak District.
The home side used their big, experienced pack to good effect as they trundled up and down the field to deny Widnes any meaningful possession.
Glossop took the lead after 20 minutes with a converted try, before Jon Hetherington put some points on the board for the Wids with a neat penalty, leaving the scores at 7-3 at half time.
The second period began well for Widnes with hooker Gareth Moss making good yards.
Andy McIntosh also went close and fullback Andrew Riley missed with two difficult long-range penalties for the Wids.
Hetherington slotted his second penalty of the game to narrow the gap to just a single point.
However, with 10 minutes remaining, Glossop scored a second try, which proved to be decisive.
Widnes will be hoping for better fortunes on Saturday when they take a break from league action to host Sale FC in the Northern Division Intermediate Cup.

Widnes 3rds 37 Christleton 15: An experienced Wids side proved to be too good for their Division Four West opponents.
