Lymm RFC are holding a fund raising day to support their player coach, Alex Bennett who broke his neck playing for Lymm against Sandal in February this year. In his rugby career Alex has played at the highest level, representing England A, and winning the Tetley Bitter Cup in 1998 with Saracens in a team that included Michael Lynagh and Philippe Sella.
Throughout his professional and amateur career Alex has played for Sidcup, Saracens, Orrell, London Welsh, Llanelli, Brive and Old Albanians. Although the initial prognosis of his injury was not great Alex is making incredible progress.
As well as the great skill of his surgeons, medical staff and physios, and his own determination - no doubt a positive product of years of playing professional sport to an extremely high level - this has been due to the great support Alex has received from the rugby world and, in particular, the RFU Injured Players Foundation and the RPA Benevolent Fund.
On 14th July at Lymm RFC there is a unique rugby event taking place which Alex has organised with the support of the England Legends and the RPA with the objective of raising funds for the RFU Injured Players Foundation, the RPA Benevolent Fund and the Alex Bennett Foundation for Spinal Injuries.
In essence the England Legends (who have never played outside London before) are coming to Crouchley Lane to take on the Bosh Legends. The two sides captained by Martin Corry and Nick Easter will be calling upon 60 former British Lions; England RWC winners, England Internationals, Welsh Internationals, England A players and former Premiership players. Players on display include the Jasons - Robinson and Leonard; Kyran Bracken; Andy Gomersall and a number of former Sale players including Steve Hanley; Pete Anglesea and Jos Baxendell.
As well as the match there is a black tie dinner in the evening, with tables still available.
We hope that the day will raise a significant amount for these charities which we at Lymm know provide invaluable support and advice to individuals and clubs alike should rare events like this happen.
Raging Bull is happy to support the event by provided both kits for the match, the Bosh Legions kit incorporates as many of the colours of Bosh’s previous clubs as possible.
The game kicks off at 3 p.m. so lets get down and support this great event.
