Rugby family fun day for foster carers

Posted On 22 June 2011

One of the day's highlights was the appearance of Gloucester player, Peter Buxton, who popped in to meet the children and help with the activities.

Stroud Girl Guides provided a tasty barbecue, followed by a raffle with many prizes including a signed autobiography by Phil Vickery, a signed cricket bat by Gloucestershire County Cricket Club players, a week's rugby training with tagv at Painswick Rugby Club, as well as tickets to various attractions in the county.

Cllr Paul McLain, Cabinet member for vulnerable families, said: "Our foster carers do a fantastic job and we hope this event went some way to thank them for all their commitment and hard work. Thanks very much to both Mark Hartery, and his team, for organising the day for us at Longlevens RFC with Andy Deacon, and also his Raging Bull sports company for providing the much needed prizes and sorting all the players."

More foster carers are needed in the county particularly for teenagers and sibling groups.

Anyone interested in becoming a foster carer can contact Gloucestershire County Council's fostering team on 01242 532654.
