Apache March on..!!
The Dears team emerge victorious in the Babdown Cup
8th August 2011
Apache continued their fantastic 2011 season with a great win in the Non playing members
tournament for the Babdown Cup at Beaufort on Sunday. This was the latest win for Janey Dear’s
quartet during a season in which they have lifted The Archie David at Guards, the Cowarth Park
Challenge as well as a number of Low goal tournaments. They took on an Inglestone Farm foursome
who had lost against Superdubitible by half a goal but had dominated against Los Locos and
taken their place in the final with a 9-4 win. On the day however, Apache were too strong, the
combination of Lucas Di Paula and Richard Le Poer proving too strong along with great running
by Janey Dear and confident play from Freddie Dear proving too much for Inglestone. “We didn’t
play that well” said a disappointed Martin Rodreguez after the match however Inglestone were all
smiles at the prizegiving as Richard Le Poer emptied the winners Champagne over a fleeing Stephen
Hutchinson!
In The Richard Underwood Cup, Tournament outsiders Ninja Skills won an excellent Semi Final
against Inglestone Farm, booking a Final place against the in-form Neptune group – based around
5 goal Argentine Jacinto Crotto, playing with the three Boyd brothers. The Match was played on a
Chilly Boundary Field in driving rain and looked a bit agricultural at times. Ninja Skills (Arguably the
best team name in the tournament!) battled hard - however the might of Crotto and the battling
Boyds were too much for them.
Attention now moves to The Beaufort Ladies Tournament starting on Thursday, call the Polo office
for more details.
