The launch of Phil Vickery’s rugby classes took place last week with over 40 children attending the first course in Cheltenham. The children were absolutely thrilled when the Raging Bull, England rugby captain Phil Vickery, attended the event to play a tag rugby game, sign photographs and take part in a Q and A session with the youngsters.
“I am passionate that the energy and interest that so many youngsters have for rugby should be developed at the grassroots level whenever possible. It’s a great team sport that promotes discipline and fitness and our classes give children a unique experience of the game that they won’t forget,” said Phil Vickery. “We need to see young talent coming up through the ranks and I am confident that these rugby class will go a long way to achieving this goal.”
The 2 and 5 day classes teach children of all ages every aspect of the game - from warming up and decision making skills to counter attacking and rucking in attack and defence.
Following the success of the first course, more classes are scheduled for the children’s summer holidays. Hartpury College is hosting a five-day course for 9-16 year olds available on a residential and non-residential basis, Marling School in Stroud is the venue for the young beginners and girls rugby will be taught at Ribston Hall School, Gloucestershire.
Children who take part in the classes will have the opportunity to meet premiership rugby stars, they will all receive a rugby related gift and also a voucher worth £165 for Venture, the photography specialists.
